Una operación coordinada por Interpol contra el tráfico de personas culminó con la detención de 286 sospechosos en todo el mundo, según anunció este lunes la organización policial mundial.
Hasta 47 países participaron en la Operación Liberterra, que tuvo lugar entre el 5 y 9 de julio, días en los que se produjeron alrededor de 500.000 inspecciones en aduanas y aeropuertos así como en puntos de riesgo identificados por los servicios de inteligencia e investigación, reseñó EFE.
La operación permitió además rescatar a 430 personas víctimas del tráfico de personas e identificar a 4.000 migrantes en situación irregular originarios de 74 países. Muchos de ellos presentaban necesidades de asistencia médica, psicológica o domicilio y fueron asistidos por los servicios de protección.
Entre las víctimas había menores y niñas que habían sufrido explotación sexual, especialmente en Líbano y Venezuela.
Interpol detalló que esta investigación permitieron lanzar otras 60 pesquisas transnacionales y requisar documentos falsos utilizados para proponer a estas personas el traspaso de fronteras.
En Colombia, la operación sirvió para desmantelar dos organizaciones criminales distintas (22 arrestos), una de ellas dedicada a llevar cubanos y haitianos desde Ecuador a Colombia y otra para enviar migrantes a Estados Unidos.
La Operación Liberterra permitió también desmantelar una organización criminal en España que traficaba con migrantes procedentes de Argelia; una falsa agencia de viajes en Ecuador, donde hubo ocho arrestos, o un grupo de traficantes marítimos en Argelia.
«Los traficantes, centrados en los márgenes del beneficio, facilitaron el paso de los migrantes sin tener en cuenta su seguridad y bienestar», detalla Interpol en su nota.
Algunos fugitivos procedentes de Brasil, Colombia, Panamá y Curazao estaban siendo buscados además en asuntos de tráfico de drogas, violaciones, robos y blanqueo de dinero.
