Las agencias de inteligencia de Estados Unidos investigan una gran cantidad de datos genéticos procedentes del laboratorio chino de Wuhan que podrían ser clave para descubrir los orígenes del coronavirus tan pronto como puedan ser descifrados.
Se trata de una importante cantidad de planos genéticos de muestras de virus estudiadas en el laboratorio de Wuhan, donde algunos expertos estadounidenses creen que puede haber estado la fuente del brote de la COVID-19, informó este viernes la cadena CNN.
El medio estadounidense, que cita fuentes de personas familiarizadas con el estudio, dijo que no está claro cómo y cuándo las agencias de inteligencia estadounidenses accedieron a ese banco de datos genético.
Pero agregó que la “maquinaria” involucrada en la creación y el procesamiento de este tipo de datos genéticos a partir de virus, generalmente está conectada a servidores externos, radicados en la nube, lo que deja abierta la posibilidad de que hayan sido pirateados, detalla EFE.
Traducir esta ingente cantidad de datos plantea para los expertos numerosos desafíos y, por ello, las agencias de inteligencia han puesto en marcha supercomputadoras en los Laboratorios Nacionales del Departamento de Energía, en los que participan 17 instituciones de investigación gubernamentales de élite.
