El huracán Grace, categoría 3, que por su fuerza mantiene en alerta a autoridades y población del estado mexicano de Veracruz, se aproxima a este departamento, donde se espera que impacte pasada la medianoche, y a su paso ha provocado intensas lluvias y vientos en la costa central y norte.
«Grace se intensificó a categoría 3 en la escala Saffir-Simpson. Impactará en las próximas horas, en la costa norte de Veracruz, en las inmediaciones del municipio de Tecolutla», apuntó en Twitter la Saffir-Simpson
Con vientos sostenidos de hasta 195 kilómetros por hora y rachas de 215 km/h, la bandas nubosas del fenómeno meteorológico han provocado precipitaciones pluviales de hasta 300 milímetros por metro cuadrado en una región históricamente golpeada por inundaciones, vientos del norte y huracanes.
El Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN) en su reporte de las 22:00 horas, (03.00 GMT del sábado) apuntó que Grace, antes de tocar tierra, había alcanzando la categoría 3 con vientos sostenidos de hasta 190 kilómetros por hora.
«El huracán entrará por Nautla a la 1 de la mañana, aproximadamente. Están pendientes, informando y en apoyo, 7.829 elementos de Protección Civil del estado y de la Federación, así como personal de las secretarías de la Defensa y de Marina y de la Comisión Federal de Electricidad», apuntó el presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador, en un mensaje en redes sociales.
«Me sumo al llamado que se está haciendo de pedir a la gente de la región de Veracruz, Puebla, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas e Hidalgo que busque refugio en partes altas con familiares y en albergues que se están instalando», añadió y dijo que estaba en constante comunicación con el gobernador de Veracruz, Cuitláhuac García.
La intensificación del fenómeno meteorológico puso en alerta a los tres niveles de gobierno y a las fuerzas armadas, quienes activaron todos los protocolos de prevención, que van desde habilitar refugios temporales, implementar operativos especiales y poner en alerta a más de 5.000 agentes de la fuerza de tarea.
Intensas lluvias se registran en la zona de la costa del norte y la región montañosa central, con rachas de viento; incluso en el puerto de Veracruz, el de mayor importancia económica y turística del Golfo, se presentó oleaje alto.
Alerta general
De los 212 municipios de la entidad, asentado en el Golfo de México, en 107 demarcaciones, que van desde las límites entre de Veracruz y el estado de Tamaulipas hasta el puerto de Veracruz, se declararon en alerta general.
El estado mexicano de Veracruz cuenta con cinco regiones hidrológicas, donde desembocan los caudales de agua del centro del país, sin embargo se trata de una zona cuyos habitantes están acostumbrados a los temporales y a las constantes inundaciones.
Ante la alarma que ha provocado Grace, la Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional (Sedena) activó el Plan DN-III, su programa especial de ayuda en tiempo de desastres con 1.200 soldados para tareas de evacuación, atención de refugiados, intervención de emergencias e incluso, de ser necesario de reconstrucción en zonas posiblemente afectadas.
En tanto, la Secretaría de Seguridad Pública del Gobierno local anunció que activó el Plan Tajín, su estrategia de apoyo a población afectada por fenómenos meteorológicos con 1.300 de sus efectivos en la zona de vigilancia que comprende del puerto de Veracruz a Cabo Rojo en Tampico Alto (norte del estado).
Varios de los principales ríos de las cuencas norte y centro de Veracruz se encuentran por debajo de su nivel de desbordamiento desde 2,5 hasta 14 metros, por lo que los especialistas consideran que pueden cargar suficiente agua antes de desbordarse.
