José Miguel Vivanco, director para las Américas de Human Rights Watch (HRW), acusó a Pedro Castillo, presidente de Perú, de socavar la libertad de expresión de los medios de comunicación.
La acusación se dio luego de que el mandatario amenazara con dejar sin publicidad estatal a los medios que, bajo su criterio, desinformen y tergiversen, reseñó EFE.
«El uso arbitrario de fondos públicos para premiar a aduladores del gobierno y castigar a críticos socava la libertad de expresión», escribió Vivanco en Twitter.
Asimismo, indicó que el discurso usado por Castillo es «ya conocido en América Latina al amenazar con retirar la publicidad oficial de los medios que no le gustan».
El director para las Américas de HRW emitió estas afirmaciones luego de que el presidente peruano criticara que varios medios de comunicación nacionales difundieran videos de su reciente visita a la sureña ciudad de Arequipa.
En estos videos se observa como algunas personas lo insultaban, increpaban y exigían su destitución.
Castillo durante su visita a la comunidad de Chopcca, en la región andina de Huancavelica, expresó que debía «condenar algunas actitudes nefastas de algunos medios de comunicación que han editado que estaba solo y que la gente pedía vacancia, cuando no es cierto».
El mandatario añadió que, desde su punto de vista, estos medios de comunicación piden que, «en vez de darle agua a los pueblos, se les dé presupuesto para que hablen bien del Gobierno».
«No me voy a permitir darle ni un centavo a aquellos que tergiversan la realidad, a aquellos que no quieren ver al pueblo, a aquellos que quieren hacer creer otra cosa», manifestó el presidente peruano.
Controversia con medios de comunicación
Estas polémicas declaraciones se producen al día siguiente de que el ministro de Energía y Minas, Eduardo González, declaró que solo atendería a periodistas de los medios de comunicación que no le creen problemas.
No es la primera vez que miembros del gobierno de Castillo lanzan declaraciones controvertidas sobre los medios de comunicación, como cuando Juan Francisco Silva, ministro de Transportes y Comunicaciones lamentó que el canal estatal TV Perú fuese crítico con el gobierno.
A ello se suma el largo periodo del presidente sin dar entrevistas, pues no concede ninguna desde que ganó la segunda vuelta de las elecciones presidenciales, en junio.
En sus intervenciones públicas, el mandatario tampoco responde a preguntas de los periodistas y se limita a hacer declaraciones sin opción a réplica.
Campaña electoral polarizada
La tensión entre Castillo y varios de los grandes medios de comunicación de Lima se vislumbró ya durante la polarizada campaña electoral para la segunda vuelta presidencial del 6 de junio, cuando un sector mayoritario de la prensa limeña ensalzó el discurso de la derecha peruana contra el entonces candidato del partido marxista Perú Libre.
En varias ocasiones, Castillo denunció haber sido injustamente «terruqueado» (calificado de terrorista) por varios medios de comunicación.
Según dice, lo tildaron de esa manera por haber liderado una facción disidente del tradicional Sindicato Único de Trabajadores de la Educación del Perú (Sutep).
Así como con presuntos nexos con el Movadef, el brazo político del grupo terrorista Sendero Luminoso, algo que él siempre ha negado.
La crispación política generada durante la segunda vuelta electoral peruana se ha mantenido desde que Castillo asumió la presidencia, el 28 de julio, con enfrentamientos con la oposición, que domina el Congreso y cuestiona e interpela constantemente a ministros y funcionarios del régimen, e incluso busca oficializar un pedido para que se debata la destitución del gobernante por «incapacidad moral».
