Las autoridades sanitarias de Hong Kong informaron este lunes de un nuevo caso de la variante ómicron de la covid-19, considerada como preocupante por la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), con lo que son ya tres los contagios en el territorio.
La ministra hongkonesa de Sanidad, Sophia Chan, afirmó hoy que el contagiado es un hombre de 37 años que aterrizó en la ciudad el pasado miércoles procedente desde Nigeria, recoge el diario South China Morning Post.
Según Chan, el positivo se confirmó mientras la persona contagiada estaba en un hotel cumpliendo con la cuarentena obligatoria para los viajeros que llegan a Hong Kong.
“Hasta el momento hemos detectado tres casos de ómicron, pero hemos conseguido impedir que se propague”, afirmó la ministra.
Chan agregó que los países en los que se registren casos de la nueva variante pasarán al grupo calificado de más alto riesgo para entrar en Hong Kong.
De esta manera, solo los residentes completamente vacunados podrán entrar en la ciudad, tras lo cual deberán someterse a 21 días de cuarentena en un hotel.
El pasado viernes, las autoridades hongkonesas confirmaron dos contagios de la nueva variante, descubierta por primera vez en Sudáfrica, en uno de los hoteles del aeropuerto de la antigua colonia británica.
El primer caso fue un hombre de nacionalidad india de 36 años que viajó a Hong Kong desde Sudáfrica el pasado 11 de noviembre y que también dio positivo durante su cuarentena.
El segundo, un canadiense de 62 años que hacía cuarentena en la habitación justo enfrente de la del viajero indio.
Los casos se detectaron cuando Hong Kong se prepara para reabrir su frontera con la China continental.
Pese a que todavía no hay fechas oficiales para la reapertura de la frontera, South China Morning Post pronosticó recientemente que sucedería el próximo diciembre, aunque solo se permitirá cada día el cruce de mil personas desde Hong Kong hacia China continental.
China, que mantiene vigente una política de cero tolerancia contra el coronavirus, aplica, desde marzo de 2020, estrictos controles fronterizos que incluyen el veto a los turistas y una cuarentena obligatoria de al menos 14 días en un hotel costeado por el viajero.
Hoy, el portavoz de Exteriores Wang Wenbin se limitó a comentar que “China ajustará regulaciones” fronterizas en función de la situación de la pandemia.
