Guardia Costera de EEUU repatria a 74 cubanos

La Guardia Costera de EEUU repatrió a 74 personas a Cuba este sábado 12 de marzo, luego de cuatro operaciones de detención y rescate de inmigrantes irregulares en el sur de la Florida.

Así lo informó la Guardia Costera en un comunicado.

En una de las operaciones, una tripulación de Operaciones Aéreas y Marítimas de Aduanas y Protección Fronteriza detectó en la mañana del miércoles una embarcación con varios cubanos a bordo, a unas 15 millas al sur de Cayo Hueso, reportó Radio Television Marti.

Una segunda embarcación fue interceptada del jueves, aproximadamente a 25 millas al oeste de Cay Sal, Bahamas.

Ese mismo día, en horas de la tarde, otra embarcación fue avistada y rescatadas las personas a bordo, a 45 millas al sur de Duck Key.

Alrededor de la misma hora, pero a unas 20 millas al sur de Key West, agentes de la Estación Aérea de la Guardia Costera de Miami avistaron otra embarcación con migrantes irregulares.

Mientras estos balseros eran repatriados, “125 presuntos migrantes y tres refugiados cubanos fueron aprehendidos” en una operación conjunta entre la Real Fuerza de Defensa de las Bahamas (RBDF), la Guardia Costera de EEUU y la Guardia Fronteriza de Cuba, informó la RBDF.

Un patrullero de la Guardia Costera estadounidense detuvo a los inmigrantes haitianos en nombre de la Fuerza de Defensa en aguas de las Bahamas, cerca de Cay Sal, y rescató a los 3 cubanos de Anguilla Cay, añade el comunicado de la RBDF.

El Capitán Shawn Koch, comandante de la Estación Aérea de la Guardia Costera de Miami, recordó que las tripulaciones de esta y otras agencias patrullan el Estrecho de la Florida y sus alrededores con activos aéreos y marítimos, para ayudar a prevenir que las personas pierdan la vida en estos viajes inseguros.

Desde el 1 de octubre de 2021, las autoridades de EEUU han interceptado a 921 cubanos en su intento de llegar a costas estadounidenses por mar, en comparación con 838 en el año fiscal 2021, que concluyó el pasado 30 de septiembre.

Las cifras muestran un incremento alarmante de estos viajes por mar, en embarcaciones sin las condiciones mínimas.
