Jovenel Moïse fue asesinado durante la madrugada de este miércoles 7 de julio tras un ataque armado, confirmó en un comunicado el primer ministro del país, Claude Joseph.
Alrededor de la una de la madrugada, un grupo de individuos aún desconocidos, “algunos de los cuales hablaban español”, atacaron la residencia privada del mandatario y lo hirieron de muerte, indicó el documento.
La primera dama, Martine Moïse, también resultó herida de bala durante el ataque y falleció luego de ser tratada de emergencia en un hospital.
Mientras tanto, el primer ministro y la Policía Nacional condenaron el hecho, “este acto odioso, inhumano y bárbaro“, manifestaron, al tiempo que llamaron a la población a la calma, afirmando que la situación de seguridad en el país “está bajo el control” de la Policía y de las Fuerzas Armadas.
“Se toman todas las medidas para garantizar la continuidad del Estado y para proteger a la Nación”, aseguraron en el comunicado, para concluir que “la democracia y la República ganarán”.
