Un video que se viralizó en redes sociales muestra a la directora de un colegio mientras castiga a sus estudiantes. Las imágenes muestran a los estudiantes mientras se arrodillan en el piso frente a la rectora y esta con una correa en mano los golpea. Cuando termina con algún estudiante, grita y dice “siga”.
A quienes por miedo o por astucia para evitar el dolor se ubican en una posición que no agrada a la rectora, esta arremete y les dice “ponte bien”. La máxima autoridad colegial amenaza a los estudiantes y les dice que la “próxima vez” los correazos serán “con el pantalón abajo” y las “faldas arriba”.
El castigo que causó indignación en redes sociales sucedió en la Unidad Educativa Isaías Garzón Loyola, ubicada en la comunidad de Gulag, de la parroquia Simbambe, en Alausí, un cantón de la provincia de Chimborazo de alrededor de 6.000 habitantes ubicado a más de 4 horas de Quito, reseñó Infobae.
Ante las imágenes que fueron criticadas fuertemente por los usuarios en redes sociales, entre ellos activistas por los derechos de los niños, niñas y adolescentes, Andrés Chiriboga, viceministro de Gestión Educativa, dijo a El Comercio que desde el Ministerio de Educación ya se han aplicado medidas para sancionar el actuar de la rectora. Incluso, contó Chirboga, se ha puesto el caso en conocimiento de la Fiscalía General del Estado para que inicien con una investigación pues podría tratarse de algún caso que implique “un tipo penal”.

Entre las primeras acciones adoptadas por las autoridades está la prohibición a la rectora de acercarse a los estudiantes maltratados físicamente. La rectora no puede estar cerca del establecimiento educativo, del hogar de los estudiantes o de cualquier sitio en el que pudieran estar los adolescentes.
El ente rector de educación dispuso la reubicación provisional de la rectora, mientras se sigue el proceso de sumario administrativo una investigación que realiza a los funcionarios públicos cuando éstos cometen infracciones, que hacen presumir graves indicios de responsabilidad en el ejercicio de sus funciones. Chiriboga dijo al diario ecuatoriano que este sumario administrativo puede determinar los hechos que permitan sancionar a la educadora con su destitución o con una multa.
Sybel Martínez, directora de Rescate Escolar, escribió en su cuenta de Twitter que la razón por la que la rectora dio de correazos a sus alumnos es porque “en días pasados se habían cortado los brazos”. Ante esa “actitud negativa” los padres de los adolescentes pidieron a la rectora que los castigue. “Atentaron contra su vida y la respuesta fue pegarles”, escribió indignada Martínez. Además, calificó al acto como “repudiable”.
De acuerdo con el estudio Situación de la niñez y adolescencia en Ecuador realizado por Unicef en 2019, 4 de cada 10 niños en Ecuador sufre maltrato extremo violento de parte de sus padres. Los castigos físicos en el país andino son comunes y son vistos como forma de “educar” a los menores.
Incluso, en lo referente a la educación formal en Ecuador es popular el dicho “la letra con sangre entra”. No obstante, el maltrato físico deja secuelas en los menores que lo sufren. Un reportaje publicado en el medio ecuatoriano GK explica que “un niño o niña que es golpeado por sus padres no sabe distinguir entre quién lo cuida, quién lo trata con amor, quién lo vulnera”, por lo que el maltrato físico se podría convertir en una puerta hacia el abuso sexual, pues los vuelve a los niños más vulnerables a ese otro tipo de violencia.
Es por ello que Chiriboga dijo a El Comercio que luego de este caso han aplicado los protocolos para la erradicación de la violencia en las instituciones educativas: “Esto implica el levantamiento de un informe por parte de los DECE (Departamento de Consejería Estudiantil) para realizar una evaluación inicial de cuál es el impacto psicológico que podrían tener nuestros estudiantes, sus familias y sus compañeros que estuvieron observando este acto, que también son víctimas de un espectáculo lamentable de violencia”.
Los cortes que los adolescentes se realizaron responden a un tipo de conducta autolesiva. Las autolesiones para algunas personas son un método “para afrontar el dolor que les provocan las emociones fuertes, la presión intensa o los problemas relacionales importantes. Algunas personas se cortan porque necesitan desesperadamente librarse de sentimientos negativos. Es posible que no conozcan mejores maneras de liberarse de la presión o del dolor emocional. Otras personas se cortan para expresar emociones fuertes, como la rabia, la pena, el rechazo, la desesperación, la intensa nostalgia o el vacío”, según el portal Kids Health.
Estos comportamientos están relacionados con trastornos de salud mental y deben ser atendidos por un profesional de la materia y no tratar de erradicarlos a través de la violencia física, como en el caso de los alumnos de Alausí.
