Matos, nativo de Caja Seca al sur del Lago de Maracaibo, de 26 años perteneció a la organización de los Phillies de Philadelphia entre el año 2015 hasta el 2019 donde despachó 209 imparables, 55 dobles, 16 jonrones, 80 empujadas y 34 bases robadas desde la categoría de novatos hasta el nivel clase A.
Este, es el tercer movimiento antes de la temporada realizado por el equipo naranja. El 5 de Julio llegó desde Leones del Caracas, el jardinero Luis Alexander Basabe por el pitcher Eduardo Paredes, mientras el 20 de Julio se confirmó el movimiento que trajo al lanzador Yohan Pino desde Navegantes del Magallanes por el también pitcher Arcenio León.
