Se lo llevó por 7-1 y dio un golpe mental a Gasquet que le duró durante la siguiente media hora, que fue lo que tardó Federer en anotarse también el segundo set.
Sin ya nada que perder y ante una pista central con buena entrada y bañada por el sol, Gasquet dio espectáculo y batalla en el tercer parcial, pero Federer quebró su servicio en el séptimo juego para tomar una ventaja que ya no soltaría hasta el final.
El siguiente rival de Federer será el británico Cameron Norrie, que derrotó al australiano Alex Bolt por 6-3, 6-1 y 6-2 y que llega a este Wimbledon tras haber firmado final en Queen’s. Será la segunda vez que Federer y Norrie se vean las caras después de la Hopman Cup de 2019.
