Falleció el diputado indígena de la Asamblea Nacional electa en 2015, Ricardo “Tío” Fernández, este martes 15 de junio quien se encontraba hospitalizado en Maicao, Colombia, por COVID-19.
El partido Voluntad Popular lamentó a través de la red social Twitter, el fallecimiento del exparlamentario de la AN.

“Tío” Fernández, fue el representante de la población indígena ubicada en los estados Mérida, Trujillo y Zulia; y era suplente del diputado Virgilio Ferrer por el mismo circuito electoral.
Virgilio Ferrer escribió «hoy con profundo dolor lamentamos la partida física de nuestro hermano El «Tío» Ricardo Fernández un hombre que dedicó su vida a la lucha por la defensa de los pueblo indígenas y la democracia. Hoy una vez más la Guajira está de luto, esta es otra vida que se apaga a consecuencia del covid-19, tristemente el Tío Ricardo no pudo superar la batalla»
Por su parte Luis Florido denunció que el que figuró como representante de los pueblos indígenas «no tuvo la posibilidad de ser adecuadamente atendido por falta de recursos, el régimen confiscó los salarios de los parlamentarios desde 2016, igual hizo con el seguro».
