Este lunes falleció el papá de Carlos Vives, Luis Aurelio Vives Echeverría, quien se dio a conocer por su labor de médico.
El señor Vives tenía 91 años y, según versiones preliminares, su deceso ocurrió en la vivienda donde residía, rodeado de sus familiares y bajo el cuidado de una enfermera.
Los samarios le reconocen a Luis Aurelio su aporte al desarrollo de la ciudad, desde su especialidad como médico otorrinolaringólogo.
Sobre él, Carlos Vives siempre se expresó con cariño y nostalgia, por la distancia física que ha generado su exitosa vida artística con su padre, residente siempre en Santa Marta. Así lo manifestó en una entrevista, hace un par de años:
«Nos separamos porque él se quedó viviendo en Santa Marta, nuestra ciudad natal, yo me fui a vivir a Bogotá. Eso nos apartó un poquito en distancia, no en sentimiento», dijo entonces. Y Agregó que como en un momento, al comienzo de su recorrido artístico, le habían augurado que solo sería exitoso en Colombia, Carlos Vives pensó entonces que eso estaría bien, pues estaría más cerca de su padre. «Pero, cómo se equivocaron. Tengo que estar por todas partes».

En la misma entrevista, el cantante de La Tierra del Olvido y Cumbiana resaltaba la importancia de «disfrutar a su padre», todo el tiempo que pudiera, ya que el médico Vives Echeverría sufrió de Parkinson durante varios años.
Además de Carlos, Vives Echavarría dejó como hijos al chef Guillermo Vives (fundador de Gaira Café), Luis Francisco y Juan Enrique. Hasta el momento, se desconoce la causa del deceso.
Uno de sus hijos, el médico oftalmólogo Juan Enrique Vives, confirmó que Luis Aurelio Vives Echeverría falleció en la mañana de este lunes 5 de abril en su casa en Santa Marta, tras venir desde hace un tiempo con quebrantos físicos producto de su avanzada edad.
Juan Vives aseguró que su padre recibía atención médica permanente en su lugar de residencia, pero durante el transcurso de las últimas semanas su salud se habría venido complicando.
