De acuerdo al corresponsal de Unión Radio en Margarita Dexcy Guedez, Santiago falleció producto de un «infarto fulminante», publica MundoUR.

Yanet Márquez López, su gran amiga y propulsora entre otros, de la Cátedra Rubén Santiago, confirmó la noticia.
Estaba previsto que el chef regresara este jueves a la isla de Margarita, luego de cumplir un tratamiento para su salud en la capital.
Rubén Santiago llegó a Margarita a los 27 años de edad, contratado como instructor de la Escuela de Hotelería Intertour Concorde, por su amplia experiencia como cocinero y conocedor de la gastronomía venezolana.
Merecedor de varios reconocimientos regionales, nacionales e internacionales y también célebre por ser el creador del pastel de chucho.
En 2014 recibió el Premio Nacional de Cocina Don Armando Scanonne.
Con la partida de Rubén, que huérfano el pastel de Chucho, fusión del cuajado oriental, al que literalmente puso a formar parte obligada de la marca país.
