El líder del grupo de rock británico Cockney Rebel, Steve Harley, conocido sobre todo por la canción Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me) ha fallecido a los 73 años tras haber sido sometido a un tratamiento por cáncer, informó este domingo su familia.
Ese conocidísimo tema, que todavía hoy se escucha, alcanzó el número uno de las listas de éxitos en 1975, detalla EFE.
Harley había estado de gira hasta hacía poco pero se vio obligado a que cancelar los conciertos que le quedaban para someterse a un tratamiento de un cáncer no especificado. Su hija Greta indicó hoy en un comunicado difundido por los medios locales que su padre “falleció tranquilamente en casa”.
“Sabemos que se le echará de menos desesperadamente por personas de todo el mundo”, agregó. El músico, natural de Londres aunque vivía en el condado de Essex junto con su esposa, Dorothy, con la que compartía dos hijos, estuvo rodeado de sus familiares cuando murió.
Su hija Greta destacó que el corazón del artista emanaba elementos como “pasión, amabilidad, generosidad y mucho más, en abundancia”.
El grupo Cockney Rebel surgió a principios de la década de los 70 en Londres. Un mensaje colgado el pasado mes en la web oficial del cantante decía que “debido a un tratamiento por cáncer, Steve no puede comprometerse con ningún concierto en 2024”.
