A la luz de ese contrato, desvelado por el diario; entre las labores encomendadas a Ilocad figuraría la «coordinación con la Fiscalía y Tribunales en España».

Por su parte, ILOCAD desmintió en un comunicado que fuese contratado por PDVSA en 2016. Aseguró que fue el despacho americano Squier Patton Boggs, LLP, que lleva la defensa mundial de la petrolera, quien contrató sus servicios.
Según esta versión, el encargo consistió «exclusivamente» en un informe sobre la viabilidad de interponer acciones legales en España contra varios empresarios y exfuncionarios de PDVSA y Bariven; la presentación de una querella contra ellos por organización criminal y blanqueo y la defensa de la petrolera.
El despacho niega, además, haber cobrado casi nueve millones de euros por tales servicios y haberse coordinado con «la Fiscalía y la judicatura para agilizar los trámites y avances del procedimiento judicial».
