El papa francisco denunció que, aún hoy en día, la sociedad discrimina a las personas con discapacidad y las trata «como cuerpos extraños«.
En el mensaje publicado hoy para la Jornada Mundial de la Discapacidad que celebra la Iglesia católica el papa Francisco dijo: «Vengo a decirles que la Iglesia los ama y necesita de cada uno de ustedes para cumplir su misión al servicio del Evangelio».
Sin embargo, apuntó que «por desgracia, aún hoy muchos de ustedes son tratados como cuerpos extraños en la sociedad. Sienten que existen sin pertenecer y sin participar y hay todavía mucho que les impide tener una ciudadanía plena».
El papa denunció que «la discriminación sigue estando demasiado presente en varios niveles de la vida social; se alimenta de los prejuicios, la ignorancia y una cultura que lucha por comprender el valor inestimable de cada persona».
En particular, seguir considerando la discapacidad, que es el resultado de la interacción entre las barreras sociales y las limitaciones de cada persona, como si fuera una enfermedad, contribuye a mantener sus vidas separadas y alimenta el estigma en su contra, aseveró.
El papa Francisco denuncia la discriminación
Respecto al comportamiento de la Iglesia, destacó que «la peor discriminación es la falta de atención espiritual» a estas personas y aseguró «que nadie puede negar los sacramentos a las personas con discapacidad».
Francisco también destacó que durante la pandemia y los cierres las personas con discapacidad han tenido grandes problema como «acceder a las herramientas de aprendizaje a distancia; a los servicios de atención al público que se interrumpieron durante mucho tiempo en muchos países».
Y quiso recordar a quienes viven en centros y residencias «y el sufrimiento que ha supuesto la separación forzosa de sus seres queridos».
«En estos lugares el virus ha sido muy violento y, a pesar de la dedicación del personal, se ha cobrado demasiadas víctimas. Sepan que el Papa y la Iglesia están cerca de ustedes de manera especial, con afecto y ternura», señaló.
La Iglesia está al lado de todos los que siguen luchando contra el coronavirus. Como siempre, la Iglesia insiste en la necesidad de que todos sean atendidos, sin que la discapacidad sea un obstáculo para acceder a los mejores cuidados disponibles, apuntó.
