La Unión Europea aprobó este lunes (10.01.2021) nuevas sanciones contra la hija y el hijo del presidente de Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, y contra otras cinco personas cercanas al régimen, así como contra tres entidades del país. En concreto, la UE sancionó a Camila Antonia Ortega Murillo y a su hermano Laureano Facundo, así como, entre otros, a la presidenta del Consejo Supremo Electoral, Brenda Isabel Rocha Chacón.
Los Estados miembros aprobaron las sanciones al considerar que las personas y las entidades afectadas cometieron «serias violaciones contra los derechos humanos» y haber apoyado las elecciones «fraudulentas» del pasado mes de noviembre. Las medidas restrictivas se aplican también contra la Policía Nacional de Nicaragua, el Consejo Supremo Electoral y el Instituto Nicaragüense de Telecomunicaciones y Correos.
La UE aplicó las primeras sanciones contra Nicaragua en 2020 y en total afectan a 21 personas -entre ellos la vicepresidenta y esposa de Ortega, Rosario Murillo, y a otro de sus hijos, Juan Carlos Ortega Murillo- y a estas tres entidades. Ninguno de ellos puede entrar a territorio comunitario y se les han congelado todos los bienes y activos que tengan en la Unión Europea.
Por su parte, Estados Unidos anunció también hoy sanciones contra seis cargos del Gobierno de Nicaragua y el veto a la entrada en su territorio de otras 116 personas que considera «cómplices de socavar la democracia» nicaragüense, horas antes de que el presidente Daniel Ortega iniciara su quinto mandato en el país tras unas elecciones consideradas «fraudulentas» por Washington. En este caso, las restricciones afectan entre otros a la ministra de Defensa, Rosa Adelina Barahona. El Departamento del Tesoro estadounidense explicó en un comunicado que la nueva ronda de sanciones se impone en coordinación con las de la Unión Europea.

El presidente de Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, inicia este lunes su quinto mandato de cinco años, cuarto consecutivo y segundo junto con su esposa, Rosario Murillo, como vicepresidenta, con el apoyo de China, Rusia, Venezuela y Cuba, aunque aislado del resto del mundo. Hasta ahora, solo el presidente de Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, ha confirmado su asistencia a la toma de posesión de Ortega y Murillo.
Además de la cubana, Nicaragua ha avanzado que delegaciones de China, Corea del Norte, Irán, Rusia y Siria, entre otros, asistirán a esta ceremonia en la que Ortega asumirá su quinto mandato de cinco años, cuarto consecutivo y segundo junto con su esposa, Rosario Murillo, como vicepresidenta. Murillo dijo a través de medios oficiales que China estará representada por Cao Jianming, vicepresidente del Comité Permanente de la Asamblea Nacional Popular (ANP, el Legislativo chino), en calidad de enviado especial del presidente Xi Jinping.
El presidente de México, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, dijo hoy durante su rueda de prensa matutina que enviaría como representante a Ramiro Ayala, jefe de la cancillería en la embajada de México en Nicaragua. «¿Cuándo es la toma de posesión? ¿Hoy? No sabía. Vamos a ver si da tiempo de que llegue, porque nosotros tenemos buenas relaciones con todos, y no queremos ser imprudentes«, afirmó el mandatario. Y reiteró que «sí [sería una imprudencia no enviar representante] porque nosotros no podemos hacer a un lado nuestra política de autodeterminación de los pueblos y de independencia«.
