Desde la mañana de este viernes se conoció la posibilidad de que Colombia recibiera de manera temporal a 4.000 afganos que saldrían de su país al ser posible blanco de los talibanes por haber colaborado con el gobierno estadounidense. En las horas de la tarde, el presidente Iván Duque confirmó esta medida, aunque no dejó claro cuántos son los refugiados que Colombia recibirá de manera temporal.
En una breve intervención, realizada junto con la vicepresidenta y canciller, Marta Lucía Ramírez, y el embajador de Estados Unidos en Colombia, Philip Goldberg, el presidente Duque informó que “Colombia se une a los países aliados que ofrecen ayuda para que los afganos que prestaron ayuda a Estados Unidos puedan estar en el país temporalmente”.
El primer mandatario, que destacó los 200 años de relaciones diplomáticas entre Colombia y Estados Unidos, hizo énfasis en que los refugiados afganos solo estarán de manera temporal en el territorio nacional, pues su destino es Estados Unidos. Apenas estarán el tiempo que le tome al gobierno norteamericano hacerles el registro y traslado migratorio.
Durante su intervención, también resaltó en varias ocasiones que serán los Estados Unidos los que costearán los gastos de la población afgana que llegue a Colombia. “Los Estados Unidos no solamente va a sufragar todos los costos de la atención de estas personas, sino que también estará contribuyendo con la agilidad en todos sus procesos para que la temporalidad permita que las personas que reciban este albergue lleguen rápidamente también a su país a regularizar su situación migratoria”, añadió el presidente colombiano, que nunca habló de una cifra de refugiados que se recibirá.
