El director musical y artístico de la Filarmónica de Los Ángeles (LA Phil), Gustavo Dudamel, aseguró que motivar a los jóvenes y ayudarles a “multiplicar sus sueños” es una de sus metas más importantes en la ciudad californiana.
Dudamel participó en un encuentro con un pequeño grupo de medios, al que asistió EFE, para desvelar algunos detalles de la nueva sede de la Orquesta Juvenil de Los Ángeles (YOLA), una iniciativa inspirada en el programa educativo de Venezuela “El Sistema” que ha llevado a cientos de estudiantes de barrios de Los Ángeles con pocos recursos, muchos de ellos hispanos, a acercarse a la música.
“Creo que en espacios como este puedes multiplicar los sueños y puedes pensar de verdad que todo es posible”, argumentó el maestro venezolano.
Situado en Inglewood, una localidad del área metropolitana de Los Ángeles con una importante población latina y afroamericana, el Judith and Thomas L. Beckmen YOLA Center supondrá un nuevo hito en la labor social de esta orquesta y se inaugurará el 15 de agosto.
En este sentido, Dudamel dio algunas pinceladas de este nuevo centro para la música de la ciudad californiana y compartió protagonismo en este acto informal junto al arquitecto Frank Gehry, quien fue el encargado de diseñar este edificio.
Dudamel afirmó que el objetivo de la nueva sede de YOLA era que los jóvenes se sintieran respetados y validados y que la música conectara con sus barrios.
“Imagínate esto. Eres un joven músico que está comenzando en una comunidad que no es el centro cultural de Los Ángeles. Y en esa comunidad tienes un edificio diseñado por Frank Gehry y adoptado por LA Phil. Una de las mejores orquestas, un arquitecto ‘top’… Imagínate qué dignificación siente ese joven”, argumentó.
También tuvo palabras de aprecio para la veintena de jóvenes miembros de YOLA que interpretaron un fragmento de los Conciertos de Brandenburgo de Johann Sebastian Bach.
“Este es vuestro hogar. Este es el espacio en el que podéis soñar, hablar, intercambiar ideas y transformar el mundo”, detalló.

Dudamel, que está al frente de LA Phil desde 2009, se mostró muy cariñoso con Gehry, a quien se refiere de forma afectuosa como Pancho.
Además, el venezolano ensalzó el compromiso de Gehry con las nuevas generaciones.
Por su parte, el célebre arquitecto contó que fue a Venezuela para conocer “El Sistema” y señaló que uno de sus objetivos en Inglewood era trasladar “el poder” de ese programa a un entorno muy diferente como el de California.
“Lo más importante es llegar a estas comunidades”, indicó.
Con 14,5 millones de dólares de presupuesto, Gehry aprovechó una antigua sucursal bancaria para levantar un centro muy luminoso y adaptable.
Con una extensión de dos mil 320 metros cuadrados, este centro tendrá dos configuraciones básicas: para conciertos, por medio de una gran sala con capacidad para 260 espectadores; y en formato ensayo, con espacios pequeños y movibles.
No se trata de la primera colaboración entre LA Phil y Gehry puesto que el arquitecto creó el Walt Disney Concert Hall, el impresionante auditorio y sede de la orquesta que se ha convertido en un gran reclamo turístico en Los Ángeles.
Al evento de hoy también acudió la actriz española María Valverde, esposa de Dudamel y a quien se le vio conversar con Gehry en la antesala del acto.
