Diputado británico muere tras ser apuñalado en Inglaterra

El diputado conservador británico David Amess fue apuñalado «múltiples veces» este viernes (15.10.2021) durante un evento en su circunscripción en Leigh-on-Sea, en el suroeste de Inglaterra, y murió poco después, reportaron la policía y medios británicos.

«Un hombre de 25 años fue rápidamente detenido por supuesto asesinato después de que los agentes llegasen al lugar y se recuperó un cuchillo«, anunció la policía local en Twitter, «no buscamos a nadie más«.

El diputado, de 69 años y que ostentaba el título de caballero, era parlamentario desde 1983. El incidente se produjo cuando Amess atendía, como cada viernes, a los ciudadanos de su circunscripción de Southend West.

Muchos políticos han condenado el ataque, mientras que el primer ministro británico, el también conservador Boris Johnson, suspendió una reunión con sus ministros.

Iain Duncan Smith, exlíder del Partido Conservador, dijo en Twitter que «este comportamiento agresivo y violento no puede ser tolerado en política ni en ningún otro aspecto de la vida«.

Por su parte, el líder del opositor Partido Laborista, Keir Starmer, expresó su «horror» y «consternación» por la noticia, mientras que el alcalde de Londres, Sadiq Khan, mostró su solidaridad con «la familia y el personal» de Amess «en este difícil momento«.
