(CDC) detectaron un caso de la variante ómicron de la COVID-19 en un pasajero que viajó en ese barco a comienzos de diciembre.

Los CDC subrayaron que ha habido varios casos de pasajeros con síntomas que no lo comunican a las compañías de cruceros durante el embarque o rehusaron hacerlo estando en el barco. En octubre pasado, los CDC ampliaron hasta el próximo 15 de enero las condiciones para viajar en cruceros establecidas durante la pandemia de la COVID-19 desde puertos del país, que vencían el pasado 1 de noviembre. Los cruceros son uno de los sectores más afectados por la pandemia en Estados Unidos.
Ante la cantidad de contagios registrados a bordo de esos barcos, durante más de un año no pudieron navegar desde puertos del país, lo que ocasionó a las navieras pérdidas millonarias.

Anthony Fauci, el principal especialista en enfermedades infecciosas del país, advirtió el domingo que es probable que Estados Unidos vea un número récord de casos de coronavirus, hospitalizaciones y muertes a medida que la variante Ómicron se propague rápidamente.
“Por desgracia, creo que eso va a ocurrir. Vamos a ver una tensión significativa en algunas regiones del país en el sistema hospitalario, particularmente en aquellas áreas donde se tiene un bajo nivel de vacunación”, dijo Fauci en el programa “State of the Union” de CNN.
Continuó instando a los no vacunados a que se vacunen y a los que sólo han recibido dos dosis de las vacunas a que reciban dosis de refuerzo. Aunque las vacunas no pueden ser la única capa de protección contra la variante Ómicron, dijo, derrotar la pandemia no sería posible sin ellas.
