La policía francesa anunció el lunes el arresto de 15 traficantes de personas de diferentes países, cuya red había hecho pasar a cientos de migrantes desde Francia a Reino Unido.
La organización, compuesta por kurdos iraquíes, rumanos, paquistaníes y vietnamitas, reclutaba a los migrantes en los campos de Grande-Synthe (norte de Francia) y los hacía cruzar por el canal de la Mancha en barcos, reseñó AFP.
Según la investigación iniciada en octubre de 2020, la red hacía pasar “un mínimo de 250 personas al mes” en cuatro botes tipo “Zodiac” que permitían transportar a 60 personas.
Con tarifas de unos 6.000 euros (6.750 dólares), los traficantes habrían acumulado unos beneficios de 3 millones de euros (3,37 millones de dólares), según los investigadores de la oficina para el combate contra la inmigración irregular de la policía.
La operación se produjo el martes pasado y terminó con la detención de 15 personas y el requiso de 40.000 euros (casi 45.000 dólares) en efectivo.
Según las autoridades francesas, desde principios de año se registraron 31.500 intentos de cruzar al Reino Unido y 7.800 personas fueron rescatadas en el trayecto.
