En la anterior sesión, celebrada el pasado viernes, la Fiscalía llamó a declarar a su último testigo, Annie Farmer, una de las cuatro supuestas víctimas de Maxwell y Epstein y única que se presentó con su verdadera identidad, ya que las otras tres fueron identificadas con los seudónimos de Carolyn, Kate y Jane.
Hasta el momento, solo se han conocido los nombre de tres potenciales testigos de la defensa Jack Scarola, Brad Edwards y Robert Glassman, todos ellos abogados de las supuestas víctimas de Maxwell pero que no intervienen en este proceso.
La Fiscalía ya ha mostrado su rechazo a la comparecencia de esos abogados, aseverando por un lado que las conversaciones de los togados con sus clientes son privadas y están protegidas y, por otro, que la defensa ya tuvo la oportunidad de interrogar a las víctimas durante el proceso.
Pero los abogados de Maxwell argumentaron que pretenden preguntarles sobre cómo se avinieron a cooperar con la fiscalía, y subrayaron que estas cuestiones son “relevantes”.
En un escrito firmado por el miembro del equipo de la defensa Jaffrey Pagliuca, este argumenta que estos testimonios podrían servir para poner en evidencia varias inconsistencias en los testimonios de las víctimas.
Asimismo, como parte de la estrategia ya adelantada por la defensa, pretenden demostrar que las testigo subieron al estrado motivadas por las compensaciones económicas que podrían solicitar del fondo creado con los bienes de Epstein para la víctimas.
La defensa también ha pedido a la jueza que otros tres de sus testigos comparezcan bajo un pseudónimo para preservar su identidad, a lo que la Fiscalía también se opuso y la jueza Nathan no aceptó.
