La fiscal de la Corte Penal Internacional (CPI), Fatou Bensouda, informó que su oficina está muy cerca de decidir si el caso de Venezuela pasa a la siguiente fase.
“Se han cumplido la mayoría de los criterios para la apertura de una investigación preliminar”, afirmó en entrevista con France 24.
Las declaraciones de la diplomática están relacionadas con el examen preliminar por posibles crímenes de lesa humanidad cometidos por el gobierno venezolano.
Por otra parte, Bensouda, desmintió las declaraciones de funcionarios venezolanos, como Tarek William Saab, quien aseguró que el organismo internacional le niega el derecho a la defensa al Estado venezolano.
“Con total respeto, es incorrecto. Mi oficina se ha comprometido extensivamente con Venezuela, incluso con la más alta autoridad” respondió Bensouda.
Actualmente la instancia se encuentra evaluando la complementariedad de la Corte para investigar y juzgar los crímenes de lesa humanidad. En los próximos días anunciará si abre una investigación formal.
En esta fase correspondería la imputación de cargos en contra de funcionarios del gobierno venezolano responsables de las violaciones sistemáticas y generalizadas a los derechos humanos.
