Nacida en la ciudad de Antofagasta el domingo 10 de diciembre de 1922, María Lucía Hiriart Rodríguez, conocida simplemente como Lucía Hiriart, se convirtió en uno de los personajes más emblemáticos de la historia chilena del siglo XX.
Fue esposa del dictador Augusto Pinochet y se le ha catalogado en distintas oportunidades como la principal influyente en las decisiones políticas de ese gobierno.
Hiriart creó y refundó cerca de 12 instituciones, entre ellas, la Corporación Nacional del Cáncer, el Comité Nacional de Jardines Infantiles y Navidad y el Centro de Madres Chile (CEMA Chile), reseña EFE.
