Colombia suma 95 líderes sociales asesinados en lo que va de año

El asesinato ejecutado contra el concejal Rubén Darío Melo Delgado se ha convertido en el número 95 registrado contra un líder social en Colombia durante el presente año.

La información fue detallada por el Instituto de Estudios para el Desarrollo y la Paz (Indepaz) a través de Twitter, donde se informó que Melo fue víctima de dos sicarios que lo interceptaron a las 7:45 de la noche del jueves 15 de julio, en el barrio Popular de la ciudad de Armenia, en Quindío.

Melo, de 43 años, había sido electo concejal de Armenia por el Partido Alianza Social Independiente (ASI) en 2019. De acuerdo a Indepaz, en esa zona hay presencia del grupo irregular armado denominado «Autodefensas Gaitanistas de Colombia» (AGC), que atentan contra personas que denuncian hechos de corrupción y realizan movilizaciones sociales a favor de la ciudadanía.

«Los hechos ocurrieron en un establecimiento público del barrio luego de que dos personas lo abordaron y le dispararon sin mediar palabra«, confirmó a un medio local el comandante (e) de la Policía en Quindío, coronel Jorge Mauro Córdoba Valencia.

Tras el incidente, la policía capturó a uno de los sicarios y le incautó un arma de fuego. Las autoridades policiales siguen tras la búsqueda del otro sujeto implicado en el homicidio.

El asesinato de Melo se convierte en el 95 registrado por Indepaz contra líderes y defensores de Derechos Humanos durante el 2021; y el número 1.211 desde la firma, en 2016, del acuerdo de paz en Colombia.
