CNN: RT cierra su canal en EEUU y despide a empleados

El canal RT América, versión para Estados Unidos de la televisión rusa Russia Today, va a cesar sus operaciones y despedir a la mayor parte de su plantilla, según adelantó este jueves la CNN.

El medio estadounidense cita una comunicación interna en la que Misha Solodovnikov, responsable de la productora que opera el canal (T&R Productions), comunicó los despidos y dijo a los empleados que RT America va a «cesar la producción» en todas sus instalaciones «como resultado de interrupciones del negocio imprevistas», reseña EFE.

«Desafortunadamente, prevemos que estos despidos sean permanentes», señaló Solodovnikov en el mensaje; del que también informó poco después el canal financiero CNBC, pero que no ha sido confirmado oficialmente.

Según una fuente de CNBC, el cese de las operaciones es inmediato y más de un centenar de trabajadores fueron informados de que su empleo se terminará el próximo 3 de mayo tras conocer ayer que este jueves ya no habría programación en directo.

DirecTV, el mayor operador de televisión por satélite de EEUU, anunció esta semana que iba a dejar de emitir RT America en respuesta a la invasión rusa de Ucrania.
