Cinco niños venezolanos migrantes han muerto en lo que va de 2022.
El pasado 18 de enero, Victoria Lugo de 7 años se ahogó en el Río Grande cuando pretendía cruzar junto a su familia de manera irregular el paso fronterizo entre México y los Estados Unidos.
Keiler Vargas, de 2 años, falleció en el trayecto entre Perú y Bolivia el 29 de enero por supuesta falta de oxígeno. Leangel Gutiérrez, de 10 años, pereció el 3 de febrero en un accidente de tránsito, cuando el autobús en el que viajaba con su madre se volcó en la vía entre Pasto e Ipiales al sur de Colombia.
Ese mismo día, el niño de 10 años, José Fabian Chacín, falleció junto a su padre, también en un accidente de tránsito en Ipiales. Ambos, pertenecientes al pueblo Wayuu, partieron del municipio Mara en el estado Zulia con destino a Perú.
Y Yaelvis Santoyo Sarabia, de apenas 1 año, murió luego de que una bala disparada por agentes de seguridad de Trinidad y Tobago le alcanzara la noche del 5 de febrero. El niño iba en los brazos de su madre a bordo de una embarcación que salió de Delta Amacuro rumbo a las costas trinitarias.
Las muertes de los niños, con una edad promedio de 6 años, reflejan el estado de vulnerabilidad en el que se encuentran los migrantes venezolanos y especialmente los menores.
En el informe Pequeños en Movimiento, elaborado por el Centro de Derechos Humanos de la Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (Ucab), se exponen los riesgos que afrontan los niños migrantes venezolanos en su traslado y llegada a los países receptores de la región.
El documento expone que los menores de edad se ven expuestos a redes de trata de personas, prostitución infantil, extorsión, contrabando y tráfico de drogas.
Carlos Rodríguez, investigador del CDH de la UCAB, dijo que en los últimos años se ha incrementado la migración irregular en Venezuela.
“Desde que varios países de la región exigen visa y pasaporte vigente a venezolanos, esa migración no se está haciendo por pasos fronterizos sino que por trochas y caminos irregulares, donde además de adultos por supuesto vemos a niños acompañados y solos”, refiere el trabajo del portal Runrunes.
Carlos Trapani, coordinador general de los Centros Comunitarios de Aprendizaje (Cecodap) sostuvo que desde esta organización no alientan la migración irregular, pero tampoco la critican.
“El problema son los pasos clandestinos, donde hay todo tipo de peligros y donde los menores se ven expuestos a situaciones como secuestro, extorsión, violencia sexual y hasta la muerte como lo vimos en el caso del niño en Trinidad y Tobago”.
Trapani indicó que los países receptores deben preservar los derechos humanos de los niños que viajan solos o en compañía de sus familiares.
El coordinador de Cecodap manifestó que el suceso en Trinidad y Tobago no puede considerarse como un hecho aislado. “Hemos visto una política de violación sistemática de los derechos de los venezolanos en ese país, condenamos la criminalización y la estigmatización de los migrantes, los tratados internacionales comprenden la protección a las personas, especialmente a los niños”.
