El Congreso de Chile aprobó este miércoles una nueva petición del presidente Sebastián Piñera para prorrogar el estado de excepción y militarización que rige desde hace más de un mes en dos regiones del sur del país afectadas por conflictos con el pueblo mapuche.
De este forma, la medida regirá por otros 15 días, a partir del próximo 26 de noviembre.
En la Cámara Baja la disposición fue aprobada por 80 votos a favor, 53 en contra y 6 abstenciones, mientras que en el Senado se aprobó por 16 apoyos, 14 en contra y una abstención.
El Estado de Emergencia permite mantener la presencia militar en las localidadades de Cautín, Malleco, Biobío y Arauco y comenzó a regir el pasado 12 de octubre.
La prolongación de este miércoles es la tercera que se realiza, en medio del incremento de ataques incendiarios en la zona, donde se concentran las comunidades indígenas mapuches.
«Este estado de Excepción no es contra un pueblo determinado, es justamente contra aquellas cosas que le molestan y duelen al Chile profundo en todas las regiones del país: crimen organizado, uso de armas, drogas, narcotráfico, robo de vehículos y madera», afirmó el ministro del Interior, Rodrigo Delgado.
Piñera anunció la militarización de las dos regiones el 12 de octubre y la prolongó ya una vez por 15 días. La nueva prórroga debía ser solicitada al Congreso.
La medida fue adoptada en medio de un conflicto histórico entre el pueblo mapuche, la mayor etnia chilena, y el Estado, al que los indígenas demandan tierras que consideran propias por derecho ancestral y han sido entregadas a privados, principalmente a empresas forestales y hacendados.
La violencia ha escalado en la región en la última década ante la falta de solución al conflicto, con ataques incendiarios a predios privados y camiones. Las confrontaciones también sacaron a la luz la presencia del narcotráfico y de organizaciones de autodefensa, así como operativos policiales denunciados como montajes por los indígenas.
