“Catorce personas murieron y otras dos resultaron heridas como consecuencia de un accidente de helicóptero del servicio fronterizo estatal”, de acuerdo a un comunicado de este órgano de esta ex república soviética, reseñó AFP.
El aparato “se estrelló hoy (martes) hacia las 10h40 locales (06h40 GMT) en el aeródromo de Garajeybat, en la región de Jyzy, mientras realizaba un vuelo de entrenamiento”, habían señalado anteriormente en un comunicado conjunto el servicio de guardias fronterizos y la oficina del fiscal azerí.
Se abrió una investigación para elucidar porqué se estrelló el helicóptero, de acuerdo a la misma fuente.
Este incidente tuvo lugar dos semanas después de que enfrentamientos mortíferos entre Armenia y Azerbaiyán, que amenazaron con hacer descarrilar el cese el fuego que puso fin a una guerra entre ambos durante el año pasado, que provocó más de 6.500 muertes.
Estos últimos combates, con un saldon de seis muertos en el lado armenio y siete en el azerí, cesaron merced a la mediación de Rusia.
Ereván y Bakú se enfrentaron durante años por el control del enclave de Nagorno-Karabaj.
Poblada mayoritariamente por armenios apoyados por Ereván, esta región montañosa se separó de Azerbaiyán tras la caída de la URSS, provocando una primera guerra en la década de 1990 que dejó unos 30.000 muertos.
