El Ministro de Relaciones Exteriores, Félix Plasencia rechazó el «intento intervencionista» de Estados Unidos por reconocer al líder opositor Juan Guaidó como «presidente interino» del país caribeño, lo que, a su juicio, representa una «clara violación a la Constitución y al orden democrático establecido».
«El Departamento de Estado pretende legitimar con un comunicado el funcionamiento de un grupo criminal transnacional ya tristemente célebre por su papel en el robo y despilfarro de los recursos de todos los venezolanos que se encuentran secuestrados en el exterior», indicó en su cuenta de Twitter.
Señaló que esta situación forma parte de una «política fracasada y reincidente» de Estados Unidos, que de forma «criminal afecta la soberanía del país y busca poner en riesgo su paz, su estabilidad y su desarrollo».
«Es lamentable que al nuevo Gobierno de EEUU le siga faltando el valor de intentar sostener una relación diplomática, de diálogo con respeto con el Gobierno constitucional de Venezuela, y que, lejos de superar la política hostil de su predecesor, el Gobierno actual continúe con su persecución financiera, diplomática y política contra Venezuela», añadió el comunicado.
Asimismo, dijo que las autoridades estadounidenses hacen un llamado «contradictorio» a retomar el proceso de diálogo que «ellos mismos descarrilaron hace pocos meses con el secuestro de un diplomático venezolano, miembro de la mesa de negociación», en referencia al empresario colombiano Álex Saab, quien se encuentra detenido en EEUU.
«Es tiempo de que el Gobierno estadounidense abandone sus amenazas y que rectifique su posición, como ya lo han hecho varios de los actores internacionales que en algún momento cedieron ante la presión o el engaño de Estados Unidos para desconocer al Gobierno venezolano», apostilló.
