En esta ocasión, las autoridades deportivas del boxeo han decidido cancelar el torneo de clasificación que se celebraría en Argentina del 10 al 16 de mayo, y en el que se esperaba que los atletas hicieran lo propio para poder obtener su pase a la mayor justa deportiva.
La decisión se tomó en una reunión vía ZOOM entre el Comité Olímpico Internacional, las federaciones deportivas del continente americano y los Comités Olímpicos Nacionales, y se decidió esto debido al riesgo que presenta este evento para la salud de los atletas y la población en general.
Ante está decisión los boletos para participar en los Juegos Olímpicos serán otorgados por ranking y la lista de atletas será revelada este 4 de mayo, incluyendo las 8 categorías varoniles y las 5 femeniles.
México pidió la organización del Preolímpico
Por su parte México había realizado la petición de poder celebrar esta justa deportiva Clasificatoria en el Estado de Jalisco, sin embargo, dicha solicitud fue denegada y el torneo se canceló definitivamente.
Cabe mencionar que los pugilistas del país ya habían sido vacunados contra el virus, recibiendo la primera dosis el 18 de marzo y la segunda el 8 de abril.
Sin embargo, frente a la decisión de cancelar el torneo, la Federación Mexicana de Boxeo lanzó un comunicado vía Facebook, en el cual informa a los atletas la medida tomada y menciona que en breve se anunciará la manera de clasificación para los púgiles de cada país.
