Bloqueo de carreteras, cierre de comercios y un paro de camioneros se desarrolló este lunes en la ciudad de Iquique, en el norte de Chile, en contra del aumento de la delincuencia y la crisis de migración irregular que hace meses afecta a la zona y sus alrededores.
Según diversos informes locales, múltiples accesos de la ciudad fueron bloqueados por maquinaria de transporte impidiendo, por ejemplo, el paso de trabajadores al aeropuerto, que dejó de estar operativo esta madrugada y recomendó a los pasajeros «contactar con antelación a su aerolínea para conocer el estatus de su vuelo».
«El comercio y la zona franca decidieron no abrir, mientras que a la paralización se han adherido diversos dirigentes sociales. Es bastante grande el llamado en esta oportunidad», indicó por su parte el alcalde de la comuna, Mauricio Soria.
La movilización tuvo lugar después de que este domingo cientos de personas se manifestaran en distintos puntos de la Región de Tarapacá -a más de 1.800 kilómetros al norte de Santiago- contra la presencia de inmigrantes irregulares, concentración que contó con episodios de ataques a extranjeros y consignas xenófobas.
Hechos similares ocurrieron en septiembre pasado, cuando una turba de manifestantes quemaron en medio de una marcha carpas y pertenencias de inmigrantes venezolanos que pernoctaban en el espacio público iquiqueño, situación que fue condenada por las autoridades y organizaciones sociales.
Los inclementes pasos altiplánicos del norte de Chile siguen formando la principal ruta de ingreso irregular al país, pese a los peligros derivados de su geografía y a la propia pandemia y crisis social que se extendió en el territorio nacional desde 2019 en adelante.
Tras un auge de entradas irregulares en febrero del año pasado, la crisis se agudizó en octubre, con cientos de extranjeros, principalmente venezolanos, ocupando espacios públicos en plazas y avenidas, obligando al Gobierno chileno a anunciar la construcción de varios albergues para atender la crisis.
