La Comisión Europea exigió este jueves a Rusia que se abstenga de realizar ataques que puedan herir o matar a menores de edad en la guerra iniciada por el presidente Vladimir Putin contra Ucrania.
«Recordamos a Rusia que incluso las guerras tienen normas y no son opcionales. Dejen de atacar a civiles y sus infraestructuras. Dejen de atacar escuelas y edificios para el cuidado de menores», reclama Bruselas en un comunicado.
El Ejecutivo comunitario subraya que «los niños no deberían pagar esta guerra con sus vidas» e insta a Moscú a respetar el Derecho internacional y a salvaguardar los derechos universales de los menores de edad.
«Esta guerra sin sentido e ilegal se está llevando la vida de menores inocentes y esa es una herida que no curará», añade la declaración después de señalar que el reciente bombardeo de un hospital pediátrico en Mariupol es «la última de una serie de atrocidades cometidas contra los niños».
