El cantautor Bruce Springsteen inauguró el sábado por la noche el retorno de los espectáculos a Broadway, el corazón teatral de Nueva York, después de más de un año con las luces apagadas debido a la pandemia.
Springsteen on Bradway, su show autobiográfico, llenó un St. James Theater abierto a la máxima capacidad solo para vacunados, entre ellos el guitarrista Steve Van Zandt o el secretario de Transportes, Pete Buttigieg, según medios locales.
Aunque se anunció la vuelta de los teatros de Broadway para el próximo septiembre, la alta tasa de inmunización en Nueva York y la fuerte reducción de casos de coronavirus llevaron a algunos productores a adelantar sus fechas, como en este caso.
El “Boss” puso en marcha hasta el 4 de septiembre el exitoso espectáculo que ya protagonizó en la Gran Manzana entre 2017 y 2018, en el que interpretaba sus grandes éxitos e intercalaba historias de su carrera y anécdotas personales.
Este sábado por la noche, en su primera actuación desde enero de 2020, Springsteen habló a los fans de su nuevo álbum, su podcast con el expresidente Barack Obama o su detención por conducir ebrio, así como la difícil coyuntura, según el diario New York Post.
“Ha pasado mucho tiempo. Llevo 71 años en este planeta y no he visto nada como lo del último año”, indicó a los más de mil asistentes reunidos en el teatro, que tuvieron que aportar pruebas de vacunación y pudieron sentarse sin distancia ni mascarilla, recoge The New York Times.
Springsteen abordó la crispación política en Estados Unidos y comentó que “la supervivencia de la democracia está profundamente amenazada”, mientras que incluyó su nuevo tema American Skin (41 Shots), sobre la brutalidad policial en el caso del afroamericano asesinado en 1999 Amadou Diallo.
A las puertas del teatro le esperó un grupo de fans, pero también acudieron a manifestarse personas contrarias a la vacuna, como ocurrió la semana pasada en la inauguración del Madison Square Garden con un concierto de Foo Fighters que requería prueba de inmunización.
Broadway vive por adelantado una apertura que se contagió al resto de la ciudad, especialmente con la llegada del verano y el mes del Orgullo LGTBI, y que está devolviendo las multitudes de nuevo a las calles, restaurantes y locales nocturnos, detalla EFE.
Habrá que esperar hasta mitad de septiembre para ver algunos de los musicales más famosos, como Hamilton, Wicked y The Lion King, pero otras producciones también han decidido abrir sus fechas antes de tiempo, como Pass Over, a principios de agosto.
