Brasil ha superado los cinco millones de casos probables de dengue este año y, pese a que la incidencia de la epidemia ha caído, ha llegado a 2.827 muertes por esa enfermedad desde enero pasado, informó este lunes el Ministerio de Salud.
En ambos casos se trata de cifras históricas para un año, pero han sido registradas en menos de seis meses, según un boletín epidemiológico difundido por esa cartera, que cifra en 5.100.766 los casos probables en 2024, reseñó EFE.
La tasa de incidencia cada 100.000 habitantes es de 2.511,9 casos y la de muertes se sitúa en 4,83, añade el informe.
Según ese balance, otros 2.712 decesos están bajo investigación, por lo que el número de fallecidos podría ser mucho más alto.
Hasta ahora, el récord de casos se había registrado en 2015, con 1,6 millones, mientras que el año con más muertes fue 2023, cuando 1.094 personas fallecieron.
Brasil, igual que toda América Latina, ha sufrido este año la peor epidemia de dengue de su historia, lo cual ha sido atribuido a los desórdenes climáticos provocados por el fenómeno de El Niño, que elevaron las temperaturas y aumentaron las lluvias en casi todas las regiones del país.
Desde febrero pasado, el Gobierno brasileño distribuye vacunas contra el dengue a través del sistema público de salud, pero debido al bajo número de dosis a disposición las limitó inicialmente a los niños y adolescentes.
Sin embargo, subió posteriormente la edad límite a 59 años, ante la escasa respuesta de los ciudadanos a la vacunación.
