El presidente de Brasil, Jair Bolsonaro, pidió formalmente este viernes al Senado abrir un proceso de destitución contra el juez de la Corte Suprema Alexandre de Moraes, que lo investiga en un caso sobre la divulgación de noticias falsas y ataques a la democracia.
Este polémico acto del líder ultraderechista se enmarca dentro del pulso institucional que mantiene con el Poder Judicial, que en las últimas semanas ha estrechado el cerco al gobernante y sus aliados por su campaña de descrédito hacia el Supremo y las autoridades electorales, reseñó EFE.
Un funcionario del Palacio presidencial de Planalto fue el encargado de presentar en la Cámara Alta la petición, firmada por Bolsonaro, para iniciar un juicio político con fines de destitución contra De Moraes.
El pasado fin de semana, el mandatario había anticipado que iba a solicitar un ‘impeachment’ contra De Moraes y Luis Roberto Barroso, otro de los once jueces del Supremo y actual presidente del Tribunal Superior Electoral (TSE), aunque finalmente ha desistido de incluir a este último.
De Moraes, quien también es miembro del TSE, es el juez instructor de una investigación en la que Bolsonaro figura como sospechoso y que intenta averiguar el origen y la financiación de una red de “milicias digitales de ultraderecha” que propagan contenido falso y ataques contra la democracia a través de Internet.
Orden de allanamiento
Este mismo viernes, el magistrado ordenó allanar las residencias de una decena de personas, entre ellas el diputado Otoni de Paula y el cantante ultraderechista Sergio Reis, acusados de “conspirar” contra las instituciones.
En su escrito, Bolsonaro alegó que De Moraes actúa de manera “inquisitorial”, con “parcialidad” y de forma “partidaria” al ser “al mismo tiempo investigador, acusador y juez”.
El hecho de que un jefe de Estado pida la destitución de un juez del Supremo es un gesto de un enorme simbolismo, aunque previsiblemente no prosperará, pues el presidente del Senado, Rodrigo Pacheco, ya adelantó este viernes que no ve “fundamentos técnicos, jurídicos y políticos” para ello.
Dura respuesta del supremo
Por otro lado, la Corte Suprema divulgó una nota en la que criticó en duros términos la actitud del capitán de la reserva del Ejército.
“El Supremo, en este momento en que las instituciones brasileñas buscan formas de mantener la salud de la democracia, repudia el acto” del presidente de la República “de ofrecer una denuncia contra uno de sus integrantes por causa de decisiones en una investigación avalada por el plenario de la corte”, expresó.
El alto tribunal aseveró además que “el Estado Democrático de Derecho no tolera que un magistrado sea acusado por sus decisiones” de esa forma y manifestó su “total confianza en la independencia e imparcialidad” del juez De Moraes.
La tensiones entre Bolsonaro y la Corte Suprema y el Congreso comenzaron a mediados del año pasado, cuando ambos poderes permitieron a gobernadores y alcaldes adoptar medidas de aislamiento contra la pandemia de coronavirus, que el mandatario censura.
El conflicto institucional se agravó este año a partir de la agresiva campaña de descrédito del presidente contra el sistema electrónico de votación que funciona en el país desde 1996, el cual, en su opinión, fomenta “fraudes”, aunque reconoce no tener pruebas al respecto.
Con sus índices de popularidad en caída libre y los últimos sondeos vaticinando su derrota en las elecciones de 2022, Bolsonaro ha alentado a sus simpatizantes a salir a las calles el próximo día 7 de septiembre, cuando se celebra la Independencia de Brasil, para protestar contra el Supremo y la Justicia Electoral.
