Chile y Bolivia, que carecen de relaciones diplomáticas formales desde 1978, retomaron el diálogo suspendido en 2010 y acordaron llevar adelante una hoja de ruta que no incluye la demanda marítima boliviana, informó este viernes Andrés Allamand, canciller chileno.
“Con el fin de normalizar las relaciones bilaterales entre Bolivia y Chile, el viernes 30 de abril se reunieron en La Paz delegaciones del Estado Plurinacional de Bolivia y de la República de Chile”, indicó Allamand en conferencia de prensa en el gubernamental Palacio de La Moneda, en Santiago.
Indicó que las dos representaciones acordaron avanzar en una hoja de ruta que no incluye la demanda de una salida al mar de Bolivia, que perdió sus costas tras una guerra con Chile a fines del siglo XIX y que es el núcleo del diferendo que mantiene a ambos países sin relaciones desde 1978.
Durante las reuniones en La Paz “la delegación chilena reiteró a su contraparte que para Chile la aspiración marítima boliviana era una materia definitivamente resuelta”, aseveró el Allamand, quien aclaró que este nuevo diálogo no significa que se retomen las relaciones diplomáticas.
Tras décadas de intentos fallidos por resolver el asunto, Bolivia presentó en 2013 una demanda ante la Corte Internacional de Justicia (CIJ) de La Haya para obligar a Chile a negociar una salida al mar, publica AFP.
En octubre de 2018, la CIJ desestimó la demanda boliviana argumentando que Chile no tenía la obligación de negociar un acceso soberano al mar para Bolivia.
