El expresidente de la FIFA, Joseph Blatter, compareció este lunes ante la fiscalía suiza para la que puede ser su última audiencia en el caso de un sospechoso pago que amenaza también a Michel Platini.
“Este mañana, el señor Blatter acudió para su audiencia a la oficina del fiscal federal en Zúrich”, declaró a la AFP una fuente cercana al exmandatario del fútbol mundial, Thomas Renggli.
La sesión se prevé de no más de 90 minutos por la delicada salud del suizo, de 85 años, hospitalizado en diciembre y enero pasados para someterse a una operación cardíaca.
Eventualmente, se podrían celebrar otras audiencias a lo largo de la semana con el mismo formato.
Este caso, que acabó con ambos implicados fuera del fútbol, trata sobre el pago por parte de la FIFA de 2 millones de francos suizos (1,8 millones de euros, 2,1 millones de dólares) a Platini a principios de 2011, sin justificación escrita, por orden de Blatter.
La audiencia se celebra en Zúrich, ciudad que acoge la sede de la FIFA, y debe terminar sobre las 10H30 (08H30 GMT).
Se trata del último paso antes del cierre de esta investigación abierta en 2015 contra ambos dirigentes, investigados por “gestión desleal”, “abuso de confianza”, “fraude” y “falsedad en los títulos”.
Platini, presidente de la UEFA en el momento de los hechos, compareció por última vez a mediados de marzo.
Ahora está a la espera de la decisión de la fiscalía, que podría pronunciarse por el archivo del caso o abrir la vía a un juicio ante la Corte Penal Federal de Bellinzona.
Blatter y Platini insisten en que se trata de una cantidad que quedaba por pagar por un trabajo de asesoría efectuado por el francés en 1999-2002.
De acuerdo a ambos, el acuerdo data de la primavera de 1998: Blatter, que entró en la FIFA en 1975 como director de desarrollo pero que no tenía legitimidad deportiva, buscaba entonces el apoyo del exfutbolista para alcanzar la cúspide de la organización.
Pero la FIFA, dirigida desde 2016 por Gianni Infantino, lamenta la falta de contrato escrito que mencione en ese momento dicha remuneración, y pide el reembolso a Michel Platini.
La fiscalía suiza señaló que la presunción de inocencia se aplicaba a todas las partes e indicó que no podía dar un calendario preciso sobre el desarrollo del caso.AFP
