El papa emérito Benedicto XVI se retractó de declaraciones centrales para el informe sobre el encubrimiento de abusos sexuales en la Iglesia católica en Alemania que fue presentado la semana pasada.
Georg Ratzinger reconoce ahora que sí que estuvo presente en una reunión del obispado de Múnich y Freising en enero de 1980 en la que se trató el traslado de un sacerdote acusado de abusos a menores, según informó hoy la Agencia Católica de Noticias (KNA), reseñó EFE.
No obstante, Ratzinger, a la sazón arzobispo de Múnich, aseguró que en aquella sesión no se habló de que el sacerdote en cuestión desempeñara labores pastorales, sino solamente de «hacer posible que contara con alojamiento en Múnich durante su tratamiento terapéutico».
El sacerdote, identificado por los medios alemanes como Peter H., volvió a cometer abusos en la archidiócesis de Múnich, lo que llevó a que fuera trasladado de nuevo.
Según un demoledor informe elaborado por un despacho de abogados a petición de la Iglesia católica en Alemania y que vio la luz la semana pasada, es «muy probable» que Ratzinger estuviera al corriente de ese caso y de otros tres similares y no actuase al respecto.
Además, según el informe, Ratzinger faltó a la verdad al afirmar en su posicionamiento que no estaba presente en la reunión de enero de 1980, ya que según las actas intervino en ella y no figuraba como ausente.
De acuerdo con las declaraciones del papa emérito citadas por KNA, ello se debe a «un error sin mala intención» que ocurrió durante el proceso de redacción de su posicionamiento frente a las alegaciones, un texto de 82 páginas.
El secretario privado de Ratzinger, Georg Gänswein, agregó que más adelante el papa emérito presentará una reacción más elaborada ante el informe, pero que por el momento la lectura del documento le llena de «vergüenza y dolor».
En los últimos días se han sucedido las críticas al comportamiento del papa emérito, que el pasado viernes fue tildado de «desastroso» por el presidente de la Conferencia Episcopal alemana, Georg Bätzing.
El obispo de Aquisgrán, Helmut Dieser, reclamó en su sermón de este domingo que Ratzinger asuma la responsabilidad que le corresponde.
«No puede ser que los responsables se escabullan con referencias a que no sabían nada o a que entonces había otra situación u otros procedimientos,» afirmó.
«Porque ése es el motivo por el que entonces no se detuvo a los perpetradores y se siguió abusando de niños,» agregó, según declaraciones citadas por la cadena pública ARD.
