El presidente Nicolás Maduro instruyó al Banco Central de Venezuela la incorporación de monedas de 0,25 y 0,50 céntimos de bolívar, antiguamente denominadas popularmente como «medios» y «reales», a la nueva «expresión monetaria», con el objetivo de facilitar el pago de transacciones por bajos montos.
El jefe de Estado indicó que, en su opinión, el país se encuentra en una fase de crecimiento y control de la inflación inducida.
«Quitarle 6 ceros al Bolívar, medida que entrará en vigencia a partir del 1 de octubre, es una necesidad para la facilidad contable de nuestro país, estamos adaptando nuestra moneda a la estabilidad que estamos logrando».
Así lo señaló en la Jornada de jueves Productivo, acto celebrado desde Salón Sol del Perú del Palacio de Miraflores.
Maduro, con un tono marcadamente optimista, aseguró que este segundo semestre «va a ser bueno para la estabilidad económica del país. Venezuela debe pasar de ser la independiente y soberana a la Venezuela potencia del siglo 21».
Reiteró que «vamos cabalgando al crecimiento en el segundo semestre que será bueno definitivamente para el crecimiento económico del país».
En su cuenta de Twitter el economista José Guerra, directivo del Observatorio Venezolano de Finanzas (OVF), respondió rápidamente a la idea de ampliar la nueva «expresión monetaria» con monedas de céntimos:
«En una hiperinflación acuñar monedas de baja denominación como reales y medios en Venezuela es un auténtico disparate. Ese dinero se va a perder en pocos meses».
