Sin embargo, el gobierno ahora recomienda que la población mayor a los 50 años, con obesidad y personas con sistemas inmunes debilitados reciban la inyección de Pfizer sin importar si recibieron la de Sinopharm en un principio.
El gobierno y las autoridades de salud de Bahrein, al igual que sus embajadas en el extranjero, no respondieron el jueves a una petición de The Associated Press de comentarios al respecto. De momento no se ha podido contactar a ejecutivos de Sinopharm.
En su edición del jueves, el diario The Wall Street Journal citó a Waleed Khalifa al-Manea, subsecretario de Salud de Bahrein, al indicar que la vacuna de Sinopharm brinda un nivel alto de protección contra el COVID-19. No obstante, el funcionario reconoció que se está ofreciendo la vacuna de Pfizer a la población con necesidades especiales, sin dar una explicación por la que el reino tomó esa decisión.
Ambas vacunas usan tecnologías diferentes para atacar al virus.
La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) aprobó el uso de emergencia de la vacuna de Sinopharm en mayo.
