La alta comisionada de las Naciones Unidas para los Derechos Humanos, Michelle Bachelet, exhortó a las partes involucradas en el diálogo venezolano a reanudar las conversaciones, de forma inclusiva y participativa.
“Estamos listos para brindar apoyo técnico y animo a la comunidad internacional a facilitar las condiciones conducentes a alcanzar e implementar acuerdos significativos”, destacó la alta funcionaria adscrita a la ONU.
Durante la presentación de la actualización oral del informe sobre la situación en Venezuela, consideró que la firma de un memorándum de entendimiento entre el Ejecutivo venezolano y el fiscal de la Corte Penal Internacional (CPI), Karim Ahmad Khan, “demuestran su compromiso en la lucha contra la impunidad”.
En el 49° periodo de sesiones del Consejo de Derechos Humanos de la ONU, la diplomática precisó que su oficina ha documentado “24 casos de estimagtización de defensores de los DDHH, periodistas y otros miembros de la sociedad civil por parte de agentes del estado en redes sociales o en discursos públicos”.
También se mostró dispuesta a que la oficina que dirige ofrezca ayuda técnica y apoyo continuado a los esfuerzos nacionales para promover “la rendición de cuentas por las violaciones de Derechos Humanos”.
Bachelet destacó que “los enfrentamientos en el estado de Apure han provocado el desplazamiento forzado de cientos de venezolanos, muchos de ellos indígenas”.
Reiteró que todas las personas detenidas arbitrariamente deben ser puestas en libertad, y respetarse las garantías del debido proceso, incluidas las establecidas por las recientes reformas.
