Los planes para una posible reunión el año que viene entre el papa Francisco y el líder de la Iglesia ortodoxa rusa tras su encuentro histórico en La Habana en 2016 siguen adelante, según dijo el miércoles un destacado religioso ortodoxo ruso.
El metropolitano Hilarion, responsable de relaciones exteriores de la Iglesia ortodoxa rusa, se reunió con Francisco en el Vaticano durante aproximadamente una hora el miércoles por la mañana.
“Hoy tuvimos la oportunidad de comentar fechas y lugares concretos, pero aún deben especificarse y acordarse, de modo que aún no podemos anunciar la fecha y el lugar”, dijo Hilarion, según la agencia de noticias rusa RIA-Novosti.
La idea era celebrar el encuentro en 2022, señaló.
Francisco ya había apuntado a la posibilidad de una segunda reunión con el patriarca Cirilo durante una conferencia de prensa en un avión este mes, en la que dijo que esperaba establecer fechas posibles en su reunión con Hilarion.
La Iglesia católica y la Iglesia ortodoxa rusa se dividieron en el Gran Cisma de 1054 y se han mantenido alejadas en torno a una serie de temas, como la preeminencia del papa y las acusaciones ortodoxas de que la Iglesia católica busca fieles conversos en antiguos territorios soviéticos.
El encuentro del 12 de febrero de 2016 entre Francisco y Cirilo fue el primero jamás registrado entre líderes de las iglesias católica y ortodoxa rusa, que es la más grande de las ortodoxas. Los dos se reunieron en una sala VIP del aeropuerto de La Habana cuando Francisco viajaba a México.
Hilarion dijo que no se barajaba una visita del papa a Rusia.
“No abordamos la cuestión de la visita del papa a Rusia en la reunión de hoy. Pero valoramos mucho la apertura del papa a Rusia en la reunión de hoy. Confiamos en que esta apertura dé fruto en el ámbito de las relaciones ortodoxocatólicas en el futuro”, dijo, según las declaraciones citadas por la agencia.
El Vaticano, por su parte, dijo que la reunión se celebró en un tono de fraternidad y que Francisco dio las gracias por la felicitación de cumpleaños que le envió Cirilo a través de Hilarion. Francisco, que cumplió 85 el vienes, también recibió una llamada telefónica por su cumpleaños del presidente de Rusia, Vladimir Putin.
“Por su parte, el papa expresó sentimientos de afecto y cercanía con la Iglesia rusa y con su patriarca Cirilo, que celebró hace poco su 75mo cumpleaños, recordando con gratitud el viaje de fraternidad que hicieron juntos y la conversación que mantuvieron en La Habana en 2016”, indicó el Vaticano.
