Las autoridades sanitarias chilenas confirmaron este sábado la detección del primer caso de la variante ómicron al interior del país tras secuenciar el PCR positivo de un ciudadano residente de origen ghanés y que habría arribado a Santiago el pasado 25 de noviembre.
«Este extranjero residente en Chile ingresó al país con un examen PCR negativo (…) A su arribo se le realizó toma de PCR en el Aeropuerto de Santiago. El examen resultó positivo y, como parte del protocolo de viajeros, la muestra fue enviada para el proceso de secuenciación genómica al ISP para determinar la variante, la cual resultó ser ómicron», explicó la secretaría regional ministerial (Seremi) de Salud de Valparaíso a través de un comunicado.
Respecto a los pasajeros que compartieron vuelo con la persona infectada, desde el Ministerio de Salud afirmaron que se realizó un seguimiento epidemiológico y que se trabaja en coordinación con otras dependencias regionales para tomar exámenes a todos los ocupantes del avión.
Chile se encuentra entre los cinco países del mundo con mayor porcentaje de población vacunada y es el que más dosis de refuerzo ha administrado, según el registro de la Universidad de Oxford.
Más de 8 millones de personas ya recibieron una inyección adicional, de una población total de 19 millones.
La vacuna más usada es CoronaVac, aunque también se administran en menor medida Pfizer/BioNtech, AstraZeneca y Cansino.
La pandemia, que tuvo su pico más grave entre marzo y junio pasados y obligó a confinar de nuevo al 90 % de la población, lleva más de tres meses bajo control, aunque con leves repuntes que aún no encienden las alarmas.
El país, que alcanzó los 1,76 millones de infectados, goza de escasas restricciones en comparación al resto de la crisis sanitaria, sin toque de queda ni cuarentenas y con todos los comercios, bares y restaurantes abiertos.
Los extranjeros vacunados pueden ingresar al país desde octubre pasado a través de cuatro aeropuertos.
