Pero la mujer de 34 años comenzó a experimentar una sensación de hormigueo en las piernas alrededor de siete días después y notó un sarpullido que aparecía alrededor de sus tobillos.
Las ampollas en sus piernas se fusionaron en una mientras la erupción continuaba extendiéndose.
La madre de uno inicialmente llamó a su médico de cabecera, pero luego fue a Urgencias cuando las dolorosas ampollas comenzaron a extenderse por todo su cuerpo.
Fue ingresada en el Hospital de la Universidad Queen Elizabeth, donde pasó 16 días sometiéndose a pruebas con médicos que determinaron que había sufrido una reacción a la vacuna.
Sarah, de Glasgow, contó cómo sus piernas estaban cubiertas de dolorosas ampollas que se fusionaron dejando su silla de ruedas atada mientras sus heridas cicatrizan.
A pesar de su dolorosa experiencia, la trabajadora comentó que no está en contra de las vacunas y cree que las personas aún deberían recibir sus vacunas contra el coronavirus.
Sarah relató que “comenzó como una pequeña erupción para empezar, justo alrededor de mis tobillos. Llamé a mis médicos esa mañana y me pidió que fuera a verla. Pero a medida que avanzaba el día, mis piernas empezaron a empeorar”.

“Terminé pidiéndole a mi esposo que me llevara a Urgencias y cuando llegué allí, mi frecuencia cardíaca era de 160 lpm, lo cual les preocupaba mucho. Me pusieron en una máquina de ECG. La erupción comenzó a empeorar, por lo que el hospital hizo pruebas de VIH, herpes y cualquier afección cutánea conocida, ya sea viral o bacteriana, pero todas resultaron negativas. Hicieron dos biopsias y en la segunda, mostró que había una reacción a la vacuna“, contó la mujer.
“Una vez que descubrieron que era una reacción a la vacuna, me recetaron esteroides y eso realmente parece estar ayudando a mi progreso. Actualmente también uso una silla de ruedas solo porque no puedo caminar con las piernas vendadas todos los días y las ampollas en las plantas de los pies”, agregó Sarah.
Sarah recuerda que “Durante los primeros ocho a nueve días, tomé bastante morfina, pero comencé a dejar gradualmente las sustancias más fuertes. Están comenzando a sanar y se ven mucho mejor de lo que eran, pero a medida que las ampollas comenzaron a empeorar, todas se fusionaron. En un momento, estaba sentado pensando ‘¿me van a amputar las piernas?’ Porque no sabía lo que estaba pasando y, obviamente, esto también es nuevo para el personal del hospital”.
Sarah, que también desarrolló un sarpullido en los brazos y las nalgas junto con un absceso en la cara, está instando a los demás a que se den cuenta de los cambios en su cuerpo después de recibir el dolor.
También ha elogiado a todo el personal del hospital que la atendió durante su prolongada estadía antes de que le permitieran regresar a casa el 12 de abril.
Sarah fue tratada con esteroides y está comenzando a recuperarse.
Sarah explicó que “no soy un anti-vacunas ni nada, incluso ahora, pero no se me permite recibir la segunda dosis para estar seguros. Sigo creyendo que la gente debería vacunarse y la cantidad de personas que la han recibido y han estado bien muestra que es seguro para la mayoría”.
“Solo quiero que la gente sepa que pueden ocurrir algunas reacciones y que no ignore ningún sarpullido. No es para asustar a la gente, pero en caso de que esto le suceda a alguien más, significa que van a recibir el tratamiento de inmediato. Estuve en el Hospital de la Universidad Queen Elizabeth y no puedo culpar a ese hospital en lo más mínimo. Desde los domésticos hasta los consultores, todos fueron absolutamente fantásticos conmigo”, añadió Sarah.
“No podría haber pedido una mejor atención. También las enfermeras del distrito que vienen a cambiarme los vendajes todos los días han sido maravillosas”, agradeció Sarah.
Sarah continúa recuperándose en casa después de haber sido dada de alta del hospital y es posible que necesite fisioterapia para ayudar a fortalecer los músculos de sus piernas.
