Como áreas “seguras e inclusivas” califican los vecinos de la parroquia Antonio Borjas Romero, los nuevos espacios del Complejo Patria Joven que luego de más de seis años de descuido fueron intervenidos y reinaugurados por la Alcaldía de Maracaibo a través de la Dirección de Desarrollo Social, en alianza con las organizaciones no gubernamentales ACNUR y Techo.
Edilia Báez, encargada operativa del complejo, recordó cómo era el lugar antes de la renovación. «Cuando me entregaron Patria Joven, estaba en completo abandono. Los techos de las salas eran de asbesto, lo cual era realmente peligroso y sólo había un baño que estaba en pésimas condiciones. Le doy gracias al alcalde Rafael Ramírez y a todas aquellas personas y organizaciones que apoyaron e invirtieron para que nuestro sueño sea una realidad. Ahora tenemos espacios seguros para servir a la comunidad”.
Jesús Nava, conocido popularmente como Cuervo Nava, entrenador de 70 años que dirige el Cuervo Nava Boxing Team, también expresó su gratitud por las mejoras en las instalaciones. «Cambiaron todo, quedó muy bonito. Los vecinos y habitantes de la comunidad están muy agradecidos y yo estoy más tranquilo porque aquí tengo mi gimnasio que es como mi segunda casa».
Javier Castejón, un usuario del complejo de 55 años, compartió su emoción por la revitalización del espacio. «Desde hace alrededor de 25 años no vivíamos momentos así de maravillosos. Ahora, además del deporte, el complejo tiene la capacidad para brindar atención a niños y jóvenes con discapacidad y cursos para el aprendizaje y desarrollo de nuevas habilidades. ¿Quién hubiese pensado que íbamos a contar con rampas y baños para personas con discapacidad?».
Mirtalis Sánchez, licenciada en administración de 39 años y participante del curso de repostería, expresó su admiración por las renovadas instalaciones. «El complejo cambió completamente. Los salones, las canchas… todo el complejo está activo e iluminado, ¡tienen hasta WiFi! Es una obra maravillosa y lo más importante es que es inclusiva. Ahora todos pueden venir y usar las instalaciones».
Sara Fernández, directora general de Desarrollo Social, aseguró que la transformación de Patria Joven es un testimonio del poder de la comunidad y la inversión en espacios públicos resultante de la cooperación de los entes públicos con organismos internacionales. “La renovación no sólo ha mejorado las instalaciones físicas, sino que también ha revitalizado el espíritu de la comunidad, proporcionando un lugar para el deporte, la educación y la inclusión”.
