“Es mi última competencia después de 23 años de carrera”, explicó Alejandra en un Instagram Live al finalizar la competencia. Y agregó: “Es duro no poder haber solucionado el último combate. Eran mis quintos Juegos Olímpicos. No fue un buen año para mí, podría borrar el 2021 de mi vida, sin embargo asumí el compromiso de prepararme para este evento”.
Benítez se retira de las pistas con 40 años de edad y cinco ciclos olímpicos completos, brecha temporal en la que, entre múltiples logros, destacan sus títulos en el mundial por equipos Francia 99’, bronce en el mundial júnior por equipos de South Bend 2000, oro en la Copa del Mundo La Habana 2005 y bronce en la edición de Alemania 2008, tres subcampeonatos desde la inclusión del sable en los Juegos Panamericanos: Santo Domingo 2003, Guadalajara 2011, Toronto 2015, y bronce en Lima 2019.
Asistió a más de 20 campeonatos mundiales, dominó el Torneo Satélite en Islandia 2012, competencia en la que también subió al podio en la edición 2015 en Cancún. Cosechó preseas en todos los eventos del ciclo olímpico camino a Atenas 2004 (puesto 20), resultados que la guiaron a Beijing 2008 (puesto 26), Londres 2012 (puesto 15) y Río 2016 (puesto 16).
A lo largo de los años, se ubicó entre las 15 mejores del ranking mundial individual de la FIE y fue top 10 en su paso por los campeonatos y copas del mundo.
