Al menos cuatro personas mueren tras incendio en un hospital en Brasil

Al menos cuatro personas murieron este viernes víctimas de un incendio ocurrido en la sección destinada a pacientes con COVID-19 en un hospital de Aracaju, capital del estado brasileño de Sergipe, confirmaron fuentes oficiales.

De acuerdo con la Alcaldía, el incendio comenzó a primera hora de la mañana, pero fue rápidamente controlado por el Cuerpo de Bomberos.

De los 60 pacientes que estaban internados por el coronavirus en esa sección del Hospital Municipal Doutor Nestor Piva, 35 ya fueron transferidos a otros centros de salud de la ciudad.

Lo mismo ocurrió con otras personas que estaban siendo atendidas en el momento del incendio y funcionarios del centro de salud que también inhalaron el humo provocado por las llamas.

De las cuatro víctimas, solo se sabe que una de ellas es una mujer de 77 años que falleció durante la evacuación de los enfermos.

Según el Cuerpo de Bomberos, el fuego al parecer tuvo origen en un aire acondicionado de la sección que atendía a los pacientes con coronavirus.

Debido a la urgencia, la sección de pediatría del hospital fue adaptada provisionalmente para la atención de pacientes, mientras que el área donde ocurrió el incendio fue aislada y las que no resultaron afectadas serán equipadas para atender al público.

Este incendio en Sergipe es el segundo que ocurre en un hospital de Brasil desde que se registró el primer caso con COVID-19, el 26 de febrero de 2020.

En octubre pasado, uno de los pabellones del Hospital Federal de Bonsucesso, uno de los centros médicos de referencia de Río de Janeiro, fue alcanzado por las llamas y los bomberos tardaron tres horas en controlar el fuego.

Unos 200 pacientes tuvieron que ser evacuados y dos de ellos, que estaban en situación crítica por la pandemia, murieron durante el proceso de traslado./EFE.
