Un terremoto de magnitud 6,2 se registró este viernes en la costa occidental de la isla de Sumatra, en Indonesia, a una profundidad de 10 kilómetros, según el Consejo de Meteorología, Climatología y Geofísica del país, (BMKG, por sus siglas en inglés).
El sismo provocó la muerte de al menos 7 personas y los residentes en algunas zonas tuvieron que abandonar los edificios, como en la ciudad de Padang, y algunas casas sufrieron daños, informa Reuters. El movimiento telúrico también se sintió en las vecinas Singapur y Malasia, alarmando a la población.
Los terremotos son algo frecuente en Indonesia, pues se ubica en una zona de gran actividad sísmica en la que confluyen diferentes placas de la corteza terrestre.
